  Television and Radio Production-HS
Grade level: 10 -12

Prerequisite: 3 unit sequence in computers, Multimedia Presentations (preferred)
Number of credits: 1, per year

TV Radio Production is designed to be a project-based course to familiarize students with the inner working of an actual television station. Students will have the opportunity to run an in-house television station that will be broadcast throughout the school and run an in-house radio station broadcast through the Internet to any online computer with the school network. While learning the proper production steps, students will be given the chance to experience the different roles such as; DJ, Talk show host, news or weather castor for radio and or Director, Sound Crew/Music Editor, Costume and Set Designer, Computer Based Digital Editor/Picture Editor, Voice over Actor, Anchor, and Camera and Special Effects/Lighting Crew for TV. With the completion of the final projects, students will have the opportunity to share their work with the community through Time Warner Cable on a public access or educational channel. As part of the learning, students will create segments to air on the in-house amateur radio station broadcast via the internet. Students will keep the radio broadcasts going from 7:30am-3:30pm daily with pre-recorded shows and music and live segments once experienced. This class is meant to be an engaging experience to familiarize students with the expectations of a real-life occupation in Television and Radio Production. This course is among the choices offered to students continuing on to a 5 unit sequence in computers. Students may take one year and end there or go on for a second year and focus on either radio or TV broadcasting, whichever field best fits their interest and skills.

This course may be taken over two consecutive years with both years counting as part of the 5 Unit Computer Sequence offered at the high school level.

One student may enroll in TV Radio Production for two years with a maximum of 2 units of credit earned towards a five unit sequence. Students enrolled over two years also have the choice of taking the course as a pass fall their first year.
