| The weight club program runs much the same as it did last year. We meet twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 3:15 to 4:30. Some students have a great deal of lifting knowledge and experience, and some are brand new to working out. At the beginning of the year there were quite a few female students who worked out in preparation for cheerleading and volleyball. A few of those same athletes have made a concerted effort to continue to work out. Over the past few months a small core of four to five students have worked out consistently. I would hesitate to make a "list" of members because students attend when they have time. Unfortunately, some students have made themselves unable to attend for academic reasons. But, students need to understand that academic and physical disciplines deeply connected. I hope that those students who are currently academically ineligible can return soon.
Student lifters are learning proper technique and overall workout patterns. Students committed to the program have learned well, and they are able to coach themselves and newcomers who need help. This Spring, athletes from the track team will, when their workouts require it, join us in the weight room for instruction and workouts. | |
