PTO Meeting Minutes
September 22, 2005

1. Call to Order

2. Update on Playground
The meeting that the officers had with the superintendent was discussed. Wednesday, September 28 a Gametime rep will be here to look at the new thoughts for the playground.

3. Treasurer's Report

4. Open House
We will provide drink and refreshments for both the elementary and middle school open house.

5. Cheridale Farms Fundraiser Update
There will be no kick off assemble. Parent letters will be attached to the order forms. The fundraiser will start on 9/30 and run for 2 weeks. The items will be in around Thanksgiving. Info will be shared with the teachers via the am announcements.

6. Family Movie Night
We would like to try this even. amber will contact the school about the location and media to be used. First date available was November 3, 2005.

7. Roller Skating
Skate Estate will contact Heidi with cost, Deals on Wheels is to expensive for us to us now.

8. New Business
Mrs. Carpenter was ill and not able to attend, she will at future meetings.
Will we do refreshments at Basket Ball games?
We are unable to help out with the Harvest Moon Adult Dinner Dance, we can help hang posters before hand.

October 27, 2005


1. Call to Order

2. Treasurer’s Report and Cherrydale Farms Report

See attached Treasurer’s report

The fundraiser was a success, we will make an estimated $7,000.00.

(Please note that a payment of approx $7,500 will be coming out of the PTO SV to pay for Cherrydale Farms Fundraiser).

3. Update on Playground

We will write a proposal to present to Mr. Hubbard who will then present to the board. We will use information gathered from Gametime (attached). We are contacting Gametime for price of installation and Heidi will be contacting contractors for estimates & volunteers.

4. Family Movie Night

The Incredibles will be showing in the Wilbur Auditorium on Friday, November 4, 2005 at 7:00pm. This Movie is FREE to the community, however donations will be accepted. Also, a reminder that food and beverages are not permitted in the auditorium!

5. Roller Skating

We are still working out the details and the dates for these events.

6. Breakfast with Santa

Amber will contact the Business Association and the school Cafeteria to see if it is possible for us to have the breakfast at the school. We hope to use the lines in the cafeteria for more space. If we are unable to do so we will have snack at the fire station instead of breakfast. The event is slated for December 3rd.

7. Holiday Movie Night

We will look into planning a holiday movie. We will put a movie suggestion sign up sheet on the PTO bulletin board.

8. Membership Drive and Bulletin Board

We will send out a membership form on this coming week and start decorating the bulletin board in the welcoming lobby.

9. Dodge Ball Night

Amber will contact the High and Middle School Princible to discuss the possibility of this in the new year, as well as contacting the PE teachers. More to follow…

10. New Business

We will order locker magnets to give to the winners of the Lion’s Pride award.

We will be putting an ad in the 2005-06 yearbook to congratulate the graduates.

Mary Ann Diaz discussed Shared Decision making update.

The Board of Education asked that we plan a welcome and meet the superintendent for the community. Heidi N will follow up with the board and we will start to plan this.

PTO Meeting Minutes
November 10, 2005

1. Call to Order

2. Breakfast with Santa
The Breakfast will be held at the school this year from 8:00 am until 10:00 am. We will be asking for donations of food from local grocery stores. It has been confirmed that Santa will be available, we will be purchasing a costume for him. We will have a small meeting either November 28 or 29 to make sure that everything will be in place. Heidi N is in charge of getting food and Amber D is in charge of getting volunteers.

4. HUGS Pick Up/Volunteers
Pick up will be November 15th (2:30-6:00) and 16th (6:00 – 8:00pm) in the teacher’s center.

5. Playground, next steps...
We received a one time grant from Senator Seward for $20,000. The next step for the playground appears to be arranging another meeting with Mr. Hubbard. We wish to again discuss location and we feel the playground must be permanent.

6. Roller Skating
The roller Skating Party will be January 26th from 3:00 until 6:30 pm with a PTO meeting immediately following. We are also looking at the dates of March 3 and/or April 21 for another party. More information on this will follow.

7. Family/Holiday Movie Night
Our first family movie night was a success. We had about 50 people attend the showing of the Incredibles. We will purchase the yearly movie license release for unlimited movies until November 2006. December 9th will be the next family movie night. We will be watching The Polar Express. We will be asking for canned food donations for the area food pantry.

8.Membership Drive Update
We had a successful membership drive. We will be contacting all new members to thank them for their support. We will also try to keep them informed through out the year by emailing them notices and the meeting minutes.

December 8, 2005

3. Roller Skating
Jan 26, 2005 will be our first Roller Skating party of the year. The times will be from 3 until 6:30 pm. The cost will be $3.75. We will be asking for volunteers. More dates may follow in March, April or May.

4. Holiday Movie Night
After many snow days, Holiday Movie Night will be December 21, 2005 at 6:00 pm. We will have a sign up sheet for other movie ideas. We will be accepting canned food donations.

5. Breakfast with Santa
Breakfast with Santa was a success. We served 175 people. Next year we will need to advertise more. We had a lot of donations from local stores and community members to help off set the cost of this event.

6. Dodge Ball Night
This event will not take place as there is much controversy that surrounds Dodge Ball.

7. Playground
We need to attempt to order the playground by the end of the year. We need to meet or speak again with Mr. Hubbard to find out the particular details.

8. New Business
Teacher/ Staff Appreciation Day (start thinking of ideas)
Start thinking of Easter ideas, especially how to include the older children.
Shared Decision Making Update Given
We would like to contact Mary Warner about submitting monthly to “The Lion’s Roar”.
January Movie Nights may try to include dinner in the cafeteria before the movie. The times may also be different.

February 9, 2006

3. Playground Sign and Opening
The installation of the playground will begin on April 10th. Amber will contact the BOE to see if we can name the playground the "Keith Agate Memorial Playground" and dedicate it to the children and the community. Heidi will see about buying a sign to post at the playground saying something like "The Keith Agate Memorial Playground... dedicated to the children and the community of Cincinnatus. We would like to have a large ribbon cutting ceremony for the community. Amber will contact the administrators of the school and discuss what would be best for them and who should be there. At this ceremony we would like to offer cake, cookies and punch.

4. Roller Skating
Future Roller Skating Dates: March 3 and April 21. The times for these parties are 5-9pm. March 3rd will be a camouflage theme and April 21st will be a Hawaiian theme.

5. Family Movie Nights
Future Movie Night Dates: February 18, March 17 and April 28, May is undecided yet. February 18th will be Madagascar showing as a Saturday Matinee at 2:00pm. March 17th will be the showing of Willy Wonka and we will have a candy wrapper design contest for the students. April 28 is undecided yet. We will have a grown up movie showing on March 24th at 7:00. It may be a double feature, showing Hitch and 50 First Dates.

6. Yearbook Ad
We will have an ad in this year’s book. One of Mary Warner’s students will design the look of the ad and we will agree upon it. We asked that it have a playground on it somehow.

7. Teacher/Staff Appreciation
Due to time this was tabled for March’s Meeting. We will look at options and choice at that time. We have about 140 staff to give tokens of appreciation to. This will take place in May.

8. EPIC
This is something that a few people expressed interest in. Amber will find out about more training information and being a facilitator. We would like it to be geared toward specific age ranges. There was talk about us using this information in many ways including in brochures for the families about many topics.

9. Box Top and Campbell’s Soup labels
We will no longer be doing the Campbell’s Soup labels as they are very time consuming and not worth the hassle. We will be handing in our Box Tops next week. We will start collecting Box Tops and Price Chopper receipts again next August. We would like to thank Joann Johnson for all of her hard work with this project!

10. Karate and Dance Classes
We are hoping to be able to offer Dance Lesson at the school for a 4 week session on Friday’s starting at 3:05pm (until 6:00pm) in March. We have found an instructor who is willing to do it for very little cost. We hope to be able to fill classes through letters home and sign up sheets. We are going to offer Jazz, Tap and Ballet. We are hoping to offer Karate lesson in April for little cost to the community. The times and or dates are not yet worked out.

11. Easter Egg Hunt
Due to time this was tabled for the next meeting.

12. New Business
Many new things we discussed tonight about how to better contact families. We would like to look into getting our own Web site. We would also like to look into the new Time Warner Public Access channel and radio station. Amber will be emailing Mary Warner to ask for her help with these topics.

PTO Meeting Minutes
March 23, 2006



1. Call to Order

2. Treasurer’s Report
We will no longer be doing the Killibrew Award. Patty C. will look into the Rutan award and see if we will be continuing this. Amber D will contact the library and see if they still willing to donate money for the playground (for benches and or the sign).


3. Playground Update
We will wait on a permanent sign until the playground is moved to its permanent location. For now we are looking into a plastic corrugated “steak” sign that will be printed (reading “Cincinnatus PTO; Working together to make things happen”). This sign can be used for many functions that the PTO has. Amber D will contact area companies.
Opening Ceremony~ As of right now we have not heard back from the Cincy administrators. Amber D will email everybody again asking for a response. We are planning a small meeting next week to discus the ceremony. Right now we are planning a ceremony with cake, cookies, punch and a large red ribbon.


4. Family Movie Night
“Grown up” Movie, Saturday March 25, 2006
April 28 Movie~ We will be watching the movie Valiant, starting time of 6:30pm. Tink will contact a woman that she knows who may be able to come in and talk to the children about carrier pigeons (that is what the movie relates to).
May Movie~ We will attempt to have this movie on May 19, 2006.


5. Roller Skating Party
April 21, 2006 will be the next party with a luau theme. We may be asking for use of the school’s slushy machine. R. Fairbanks has Hawaiian themed items that she will be letting us use. Heidi N will be asking for help with chaperones.


6. Taste of the Nations
This and the silent auction will be combined and planned for the end of May sometime. Heidi N will be checking out dates and locations for this event. The Taste of the Nations will highlight fruits from different countries around the world. The silent auction will be items donated to the PTO that can be bid on while enjoying the Taste of the Nations. Amber D will make up flyers to hang around the community and to send home with the children. We will also be asking PTO members to find items to be donated.


7. Silent Auction
See above as these two items are now combined.


8. Rainbow Planet
Jim Valley is a talented musician who will be coming to Cincinnatus Central School on June 13 and 14, 2006. He will work with the children and then present a concert for the community. Mrs. Carpenter contacted the PTO to see if we wanted to help and participate with this event. We will discuss at the next meeting what we would like to do for the community concert. We will help the school by dying the t-shirts (that have been wrapped already with rubber bands). We will dye these one color (so the final outcome will be one color and white) for each grade (for example UPK will be red and white, kindergarten will be orange and white, ect). We will be discussing this more with Mrs. Carpenter.


9. Dance and Karate Lessons
Dance lessons are going very well, we will continue with another 4 week session at the end of April into May. Karate starts on April 24th for children 7 and over. It starts at 6:30pm and runs until 7:30pm. The cost for the 4 week session is $20.00 (due at the first class).


10. Anti-Underage Drinking Forum
This forum is April 5, 2006 at the Homer Center for the Arts from 7:00pm until 8:30 pm.


11. Teacher Appreciation Gifts
Teacher Appreciation Week is May 7-13. We will be ordering motivational posters for the school to hang up. On Monday of Teacher Appreciation Week we would like to decorate the teacher center and give out small thank you notes with chocolates. On Friday we would like to buy donuts for the staff and put them in the teacher center.


12. Citizen of the Month Award
The PTO will order Zipper Pulls for the Citizen of the Month students.


13. New Business
“Field Days” will be in June, PTO will be serving lemonade.

April 27, 2006

3. Ideas for Older Students
(This topic was brought up and discussed at the meeting)
A few organizations have asked that the PTO look into purchasing an inside scoreboard for the school. The cost of scoreboards run from $3,000 to $10,000, we would look at getting one in the middle price range. We will form a Score Board Committee and look into starting to raise the money next school year. Alan Youngs was present and willing to put money in the scoreboard fund. We told him we would contact him with more information when we had it.

4. Playground Update
Friday, May 19, 2006 at 2:00 pm will be the Official Opening Ceremony. We discussed having the children say a chant and hold hands with the Senator for a group photograph. We also discussed refreshments. Katy Wagner contacted the PTO and the Athletic Association is very willing to help with any thing we may need for the playground. We discussed having the Athletic Association bring trays of cookies to classrooms for a snack. These were things that were discussed at the meeting but the final decision will be made by school administrators.

The issue of the playground sign was brought up. A member present shared the idea of having either small signs on benches or one sign that stated a thank you to “students, parents, community members, alumni and supporters”. The sign is being tabled until the playground is in it’s permanent position, then we will discuss again what should be on the sign and attempt to make a final decision about wording.

6. Roller Skating Party
The tentative dates for the next party will be Sept 22, 2006 and October 20, 2006. We have to put in building requests for these dates yet (we will do in May) and Heidi N said she would contact Matt (the skating company owner) and see if he is available.

7. Taste of the Nations and Silent Auction
All is set for the event on Monday, May 8th. P and C and Price Chopper will hopefully donate money for fruit. We will ask Mrs. Carpenter about selling Girl Scout cookies at the event.

8. Rainbow Planet
We will be dying the shirts (possibly over Memorial Day weekend, Amber will let people know if volunteers are needed to help with this task). The PTO will purchase the dye for this event. During the concert the PTO will sell slushies, Heidi N will contact Mr. Biledeu to see if we can use the slushy machine.

9. PTO Lessons
Dance Lessons will start on April 29th and run for 4 weeks, the time will be switched to 3:30.
Karate Lessons started this week and seem to be going well, 27 students were present. We may look into continuing this for another 4 weeks as well (it would then run into June).
We also discussed gymnastics, archery, ice skating and art classes for next fall. We need to look into need for these classes, supplies for the classes (esp. archery) and instructors.

10. Teacher Appreciation Gifts
We have ordered the posters for the school. We will decorate the teacher’s center and give out thank you notes in all of the teacher’s mailboxes along Hershey’s “Hugs”.

11. Drama Club Daycare
Heidi N will contact the drama dept and ask if this is something that they are interested in. If we do this it will be for one of the evening showings.

12. After Prom Party
The PTO will donate $100.00 to this event as well as 8 bottles of soda.

13. Kindergarten Books
We need to order more. Starting next year we will have our own scholastic account.

14. New Business
Field Days will be in June, PTO may be serving Lemonade.
We would like to look into parent/child education classes, EPIC and local PTO/PTA forum.

May 25, 2006


1. Call to Order

2. Treasurer’s Report
We made $725.50 on the Silent Auction.

3. Playground Wrap Up
We will put the left over money from the playground into a CD; this will include any money that we get back from the school. Amber will contact the BOE to get a copy of the bills from the playground as well as a return of any unused money (as per the playground proposal dated January 12, 2006).
We all looked at the beautiful book the school made for us and have decided to ask if we can leave it in the school library so everyone can enjoy it.

4. Fall Classes/Lessons
- Gymnastics: We have asked Mr. Schmidt to help us coordinate this activity for the fall.
- Karate: We will continue this in the fall with the same instructor on Monday nights at 6:30pm. The cost will be $20.00 for a 4 week session.
- Dance: We are going to try to continue this in the fall as well.

5. Posters for Staff
The posters are now in and they will be framed in 16x20 frames (Patty will do this).

6. Box Top/Price Chopper/ End of the year closure
Joanne Johnson is willing to do BOX TOPS and Price Chopper again (THANK YOU Joanne!)
The PTO will donate the movies that we got from Campbell’s to the school. We will put the VCR and DVD player (labeled) in the PTO closet.

7. Field Days
We will provide Lemonade to the students for the field days.

8. Corn Fest
The PTO will do pumpkin painting again as well as a “guess the weight of the pumpkin” contest. We will also hold a perennial plant sale at the Corn Fest. We would also like to contact the school library and see if they are interested in working with us to provide the children with a bounce house and have a “Bounce for Books” (where the children get a free book for bouncing in the bounce house). We are also going to look into the price of a helium tank for helium balloons.

9. Nominations and Elections of PTO officers for next school year
This will be tabled until next meeting (on June 8th) so (hopefully) we have more nominations.

10. New Business
Fall Fundraiser was discussed. Next year we will not be selling Cherrydale Farms. Instead we will try and sell “Cincy Pride” items (for example blankets, stadium chairs and Tee shirts).
We are going to write Mr. Eaton a note of well wishes and thanks before the end of the year.
Tee shirts are dyed for Rainbow Planet; we will serve slushies from the slushie machine the night of the Jim Valley concert.
We briefly discussed the score board “project”.

11. Summarize some of next years events and do building request forms
This we will do on the June 8th meeting.
