the community.
10. Open House
The Middle School open house will be October 3rd and the Elementary open
house will be October 17th. The PTO will provide refreshments. Heidi N.
is going to ask the cafe. about the possibility of the cafeteria
catering the event with healthy food and the PTO paying the cost. This
will give the members of the PTO a better opportunity to visit the
school and enjoy open house.
11. Price Chopper “Tools for Schools” and Box Tops
The PTO is encouraging everyone with a Price Chopper Advantage card to
sign up for this program. All that the shopper must do is sign up at the
service desk for an Advantage card and designate Cincinnatus as the
school of their choice. (If you already have an Advantage card simply go
to the customer service desk and designate Cincinnatus as your school of
choice). Price Chopper will match points with dollars spent at their
store. Last year the money earned from this program was donated to the
middle school. This free program runs until December 16, 2006. Box Tops
for education is another great program that earns money for the school.
Simply send in the small “coupon” on the tops of various boxes, the PTO
will do the rest (THANK YOU JOANNE JONHSON!). The PTO sends in all of
the coupons we receive and then get a check for the total amount.
12. Shared Decision Making
In the past Mary Anne Diaz has giving us this report as she sits on the
SDM committee. The committee is comprised of administrators, teachers
and parents. The parents on the committee are asked to share the meeting
report with the PTO. Ms. Diaz stated that she is willing to continue to

any suggestions and questions the PTO has with the SDM committee. If
anyone else is willing to do this please contact any administrator for
details.

When the current playground is moved the PTO must decide what to do with
the money (from the playground fund). The PTO would like ideas from
students in the school as to what to purchase next (please bring ideas
to next meeting). There is a 30 x140 ft area for the new swings and a
30x48 area for other equipment. Until the time the money is needed for

is going very well.

13. Student Conduct and Recognition Committee (this was written before
as the Discipline Committee)
Ms. Heffernan described this to us as a committee whose purpose is to
review the school’s code of conduct and consequences and looking for
positive rewards for students. The committee will look at other school’s
policies and bring ideas to the superintendent. The goal of the group is
to be done by the end of the school year. The committee meets the second
Tuesday of the month at 3:30 and the fourth Tuesday of the month at
4:15. She is looking for one or two PTO members to sit in on this
committee.
We also discussed the SAT prep course. In the past classes have been
funded in different ways. Heidi N will look into this and contact the
Guidance Counselor about time and cost.

3. Breakfast with Santa
113 children and 77 adults were served. All went well, thanks to all
that volunteered; we will do it again next year. Suggestions for next

of Santa’s visit. The raffles were a big hit.
4. Family Movie Night
We will be showing Barnyard on Friday, December 15, 2006. We will raffle
off candy and books from the PTO closet.
5. Karate
All is going well with Karate. The karate group did a fundraiser which
has brought up questions. The group did a fundraiser which Gary Busby
initiated and was in charge of, the problem with that is the school and
the PTO had no knowledge or paper work of this fundraiser. Karate is a
program sponsored by the PTO; therefore the PTO is responsible for the
group’s actions. The PTO wishes to continue with Karate but things must
be done following protocol. Two suggestions that were brought up at the
PTO meeting were as follows: The PTO keep Karate going and do all of the
paperwork or Karate becoming a club of its own. The pros and cons were
discussed for each of these suggestions. We decided to keep karate in
the PTO and to make one PTO member “in charge” of Karate and be a
liaison between the karate group and PTO. We will discuss PTO policies,
insurance and tournaments with Mr. Busby. We nominated Sue Vissar for
this position, she accepted. The PTO will be drafting an agreement for
both the PTO officers and Mr. Busby to sign. The draft will state that
while at the school the PTO will support the Karate group. While away at
tournaments Cincinnatus school and the PTO will not supply insurance.
Please speak to a PTO officer or Sue V. if you have any questions
regarding Karate.
6. Theater Works

Company for the 2007/2008 school year.

The PTO, along with Nicole Fabian, the art teacher, will offer art
classes for students in grades 2, 3 and 4. We discussed allowing grades

for the older students at a later date. The class will have 15 slots and
available on a first come, first serve bases. The late bus will be
available to take the kids home. The class will be March 21, 22, 28 and
