August 1, 2007

 

Set regular meetings for Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm 1St regular meeting is Wednesday September 12, 2007 at 6:30pm Meeting calendar set tentatively as follows; 10/10, 11/14, 12/9, 1/13, 2/13, 3/12 and 4/9

 

Karate will be Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm to 7:30pm Want to set sign-ups for the first week of school Looking to start the season on Monday, September 17th

Corn Fest – September 15th ,2007
We discussed having pumpkin painting (Heidi has some paints), balloon sales (helium/balloon combo at Wal-Mart, we used 3 last year), guess weight or jar count, pumpkin/ball toss (hollowed pumpkins and ping pong balls), hoola-hooping or jump-roping contest, dart/balloon pop, cotton candy or snow cone rental, jump house, membership drive, being part of the parade.

I will call pumpkin farms for prices- Jackson’s Pumpkin Farm in Endicott, The Frog Pond in Bainbridge, Anderson’s Market in Homer

We have around 100 books leftover to use for the Corn Fest prizes

We have purchased some items for the “Breakfast with Santa” baskets or raffles, Patty bought things from Tabitha’s HI sale.

PTO Minutes
August 24, 2007

 

Planned Corn Fest activities;

Pumpkin painting, balloon sales, pumpkin/ping-pong toss, hoola-hoop/jump-rope contests, slushies and membership/volunteer table.


Corn Fest volunteers needed;

Tabitha volunteered to contact high schoolers and send out newsletter within the first week of school.

Amy will contact Dannette to have a school-wide email sent out for volunteers.


All members to help collect;

Egg cartons, old t-shirts and plastic yogurt containers

 

Tabitha and Sue volunteered to look in school closet for paint brushes, string, ticket buckets, markers. They will look into borrowing hoola-hoops and jump-ropes from the school

Tabitha is:
Checking on the slushie machine, getting poster boards and students to make the school posters, writing up and distributing the newsletter and volunteer note

Sue is:
Making hallway posters and slushie coupons, getting name tags-tablecloths-paper towels and cashbox

Carolyn is:
Getting 3 balloon combo kits, acrylic paints, clothespins

Amy is:
Getting the pumpkins and the ping-pong balls, making event signs for gym

 

Carolyn has a couple zoo items leftover.
Slushie coupons for hoola-hoop and jump-rope winners.
Books for ping-pong toss winners.

Tabitha has item-by-item list needed for all PTO events (came from Patty).

“Meet the officers” write-ups need to be emailed to Nicki Rice ASAP.

All playground questions need to be directed to Heidi 863-3726.

Student of the Month:
Possibly an end-of the-year field trip for all recipients

Volunteer reward basket:
Volunteer program whereby people can “work” toward a monthly “reward” basket, your name goes in for every 2 hours you put in per quarter

Roller-skating ideas:
Possibly a Saturday matinee 1-5pm, in January, February or March

PTO Minutes
September 12, 2007

1)  Treasurer’s report- Carolyn had just received the paperwork from Patty at this meeting. She will have a full report next meeting.

2)  Cherrydale Fundraiser-  will run October 12th thru October 26th. Sue volunteered to be the contact person for Mr. VanDuran, as Patty will be unavailable. The prizes for this year’s winners will be books, there is a list to chose from.

3)  New Volunteer Program- All volunteers will be entered into a quarterly drawing
for gifts from local businesses. There will be an adult drawing and a student
drawing each quarter.

4)  Open House- Elementary OH is October 16th and Middle School OH is October
4th. We are asking Greg if the cafeteria will cater the food table it for us. We
would like the Elementary’s to be inside the cafeteria as to alleviate the hallway
confusion. The Middle School’s should be in the hall to draw people down that
way. We are planning on having a membership/volunteer sign-up table outside the
cafeteria for both events.

5)  Roller-skating night- planned for October 5th, Tabitha will confirm the date with
“Woody”. Carolyn will get the soda (cans), candy (Starburst and Skittles-big
sellers) and water. Tabitha will order the pizzas (2 per shift) and ask Shawn to
“EMT” the event. We talked about a possible Saturday matinee “skate” in
February. A western theme was decided on for the Oct date.

6)  Advertising for PTO events- Amy was volunteered to work on advertising for the year events in the Cortland Standard, Town and Country Pennysaver and possibly the Norwich Pennysaver.

7)  Price Chopper “Tools for Schools”- Sue is writing up a flyer to distribute to all classrooms. The class with the most names returned will win a pizza party in January(?). School # 16504

8)  Playground CD- Patty’s name is still on it. She says that the CD needs to be rolled over until the construction project is completed. Carolyn will email Mr. Mack about a projected completion date.

9)  Karate- starting September 17th, Wednesday nights from 6:30pm to 7:30pm in the small gym. After mid-October it will move the cafeteria. Sue will request mats. There has been a lot of new “joiners”.

10) Corn Fest- Carolyn got the balloons. Amy will bring donuts for set-up in the morning (Kripsy Kremes requested). We had an officers meeting on September 10th to go over most of the pressing Corn Fest issues. All seems to be in order.

11) New Business- Mary Ann Diaz’s mother passed away. Tabitha will get card to send. Mr. Ryan was wondering about prizes for the Middle School Student-of-the-month program. We suggested an end-of-the-year field trip as a possibility.

PTO Minutes
October 10, 2007

1)  Treasurer’s report- Carolyn handed out a report to all in attendance. One is enclosed in folder with a copy of these minutes. 

2)  Face Painting-  Brenda Lester has volunteered to paint faces at our events. She
     wants to donate her time, the money going back to the PTO. She was in   
     attendance and gave us some ideas as to what she can do. We suggested a small 
     face-paint for $1.00 and a large face-paint for $3.00, possibly doing it at the next
     roller-skating night (November 2nd). Considering picture sales too. Tabitha is 
     confirming with Woody.

3)  CD for playground- We rolled over the CD in order to keep it earning interest
until the school construction project is done and we can finish playground area.
Some suggestions for $ are benches and swings.

4)  Roller-skating- October results- 162 kids, $648 at the door/$361.75 at concessions
November theme/ideas- face painting, food drive, ½ price skate, parents skate
free, Halloween theme. Need more volunteers and permission slips for drop-offs.
We also need to order extra pizzas for the first shift. Tabitha will request a
Saturday matinee roller-skating party for February 9th.

5)  Cherrydale Fundraiser- runs from October 12th to October 26th. Denise Rice will
help Friday, organize for teachers. Sue has started to sort by classroom/teachers
and grade. To be in the week of Thanksgiving, will need truck-unloading help.

6)  BOE Recognition/ School Bus Safety Week (10/22-26)- BOE certificate was
signed and a card for the bus drivers was also signed

7)  Donation letters for Breakfast w/Santa (12/1)-  Tabitha has a copy of previous
letter and the info from Heidi about last years event. Cindy U volunteered to help
out with the cooking again this year. Carolyn will be getting items for raffle
baskets again this year. Many sponsors donate gift certificates that can be used for
needed items.

8)  Karate fundraiser-  Sue will put in request for end of November.

9)  New Business-  Babysitting for PTO meetings, Carolyn is asking
Traci Brewster (her niece). Movie nights- 11/9 (or16), 12/14, 1/11 and 3/14. Tabitha will
Request.

PTO Minutes
November 14, 2007

 

1)  Treasurer’s report- enclosed in folder

2)  Reality Check- “Kimberly” from Reality Check came to the meeting and offered   
any anti-tobacco policies and information for us to consider being a part of. She
gave the PTO  2 CDs, a couple booklets and some info pages to look at. She
encouraged us to participate in “no-smoking movie night”. That would mean that
the movie to be shown would come from the list of credited non-smoking movies,
(they have no smoking scenes or characters at all in them).

3)  Family Fun Night/Cooking Class/Art Class- Katie Wagner came to the meeting to
explain  Family fun night. It would involve gym activities for families of students
UPK through 6th grade. She has student volunteers to help out. The date is
sometime in January. Greg Bilodeau is the contact person for the cooking classes.
We are looking to do an elementary class and then a middle school class. The Art
classes would be the same, elementary and middle school class. The contact
person is Ms. Fabian, tentative date 1/8, topic –pottery. We would like to keep the
cost for each class below $20 per person.

4)  Cherrydale Fundraiser- sold around $15,000, the PTO get 50% of sales. Looking
at a December 1st delivery. We could set-up table for this at Breakfast with Santa.
Katrina Scott has volunteered to help on delivery day.

5)  National Education Week/Staff-Teacher Appreciation- Bagels were decided.
Tabitha will get them, Sue will post signs.

6)  Breakfast with Santa- Amber’s Dad will be “the big guy”. We have candy and
stuffed snowmen for him to give out. Put donation list in the newspaper
afterwards. Carolyn will get the items for the raffle baskets.

7)  Holiday Shoppe- Sue will be the contact person. We need a schedule by teacher
and grade (UPK – 6th). Shoppe to be held 12/10 – 12/14 and 12/14 during movie
night. We received the ok from Mrs. Carpenter. Slips to go home with money
envelope and “all children included” note. We contracted with the “School Pals”
company.  

8)  Movie Night- 12/14- Pirates of the Caribbean- at World’s End will be shown with
raffles. We had 180 people at the last movie night. Most ever!! Amy will put ad in
pennysaver for this event. Carolyn will get movie and raffle items.

9)  New Business- Brenda Lester’s face painting brought in $75.00. We will ask her
for our Saturday matinee roller-skating party in February.

PTO meeting minutes
January 9, 2008

 

1)      Treasurer’s report- enclosed in folder

      2)  Wish Box-  Put box in teacher’s center and make announcement via mailboxes.
           It has come to our attention that the 5th and 6th graders have no science textbooks,
           maybe we can use our “wish box” points for some of those. Also, look into
           recycling colored ink cartridges.

3)   Price Chopper Program- Mrs. Wilbur’s class and Mrs. Poli’s class
 will be given a pizza party in their classrooms for turning in the most Price
 Chopper names for our “Tools for Schools” program. We would like to buy a 
 bulletin board and bulletin strips for the school hallway with our PC points.

4)   Bylaws- Meeting January 31st in the Kellogg Free Library at 6pm. Amy will
 speak with Patty Harvey and get the “ok”. Tabitha will email copies of the
 bylaws to everyone for editing.

5)   PTO activities for February break- YMCA- swimming (3 hrs for $250.00,
 Cortland College- ice skating (cheaper than the McDonald center at $140.00).
 Both facilities have limited dates. These charges are for our group to have the
 facility to ourselves. We all agreed that it would be safest that way. They do need
 a certificate of liability insurance.

6)   Cooking / Art Classes- Cooking January 28th at 3:30pm for 4-6 graders, making
 pizza. Art for 5th and 6th graders 2/25, 2/26, 3/10 and 3/11, using clay. Tabitha
 will put in building requests

7)   Roller-skating Matinee- Saturday February 9th from 1-5pm. Tabitha will put in
 request. Hawaiian theme w/ face painting?? We will ask Brenda Lester if she is
 interested in doing the face painting for us again. Shawn Scoville may be
 available to be the EMT for us.

8)   Electronic Outdoor Sign- The PTO would like to buy the school an electronic outdoor sign to put out front. Amber will inquire about Marathon’s sign. Amy will call sign companies for prices. Tabitha and Sue will request a meeting with Mr. Hubbard on this matter.

9)   Holiday Shoppe- It was a success! We sold out of everything. Next time we need
 more 1-2 year old gifts and need to take cash only.

10)  Science night- Amber has some science supplies that she has offered to the PTO to use for our
 Science night. Tabitha has heard from Mr. Pinkerton, Mr. Schmidt and Mrs. Bair.  

11)  New Business- Insurance-We need to look into what is covered through the school and
 possibly get an extra rider of our own. Full Area PTO meeting- in our auditorium for all area
 PTOs as a way to join the communities and share new ideas.

PTO meeting minutes
March 12, 2008 

1)   Treasurer’s report- enclosed in folder

     2)   Reading Night- Robin Eaton(2nd grade teacher) joined us to present this event. April 10th,
            6:45pm – 7:30pm (p.j.s, pillows, door prizes) 3 teachers for 10 minutes each, Dr Seuss theme,
            small gym. We will need projector, cords, microphone. Tabitha will put in building request.
            (UPK-6th grades)

3)   Box Tops-  Katrina Scott will be handling most of this for us. She has posters, monthly   
 collection sheets and book list (to sell from). 

     4)   LED sign- ask Marathon about theirs (Amy)

5)   CD/playground fund- $10, 680.59

6)   Fundraising for next year’s calendar- cookbooks-organize in fall, orders in spring. Ask students,
 families, community members and teachers for recipes.

7)   Science night- redeem “tools for schools” point for science items. Tabitha will ask Heidi to chair
 this event. May 27th

8)   Community clean-up and Pizza party- Tabitha will ask Amber to chair, April 26th.

9)   After-prom party donation- We will donate $100.00, to be given to Mrs. Heffernan. 

10)  Nominations for new officers- Amy will advertise for elections. Nominations in 
April, elections in May.

11)  New Business- kindergarten gifts- books(?), senior gifts-school mugs(?), reading incentive gifts
 for 2 assemblies(list from Mrs. Wright), teacher appreciation gifts- pen sets(?) We will donate
 $100.00 to Alayna Eaton toward her leadership conference in Washington (she came to our
 meeting and presented her information to us for her solicitation)

April 9th, 2008

 

1)  Treasurer’s report- on file

2)  By-laws- add article XI- “sponsored events and scholarships” to be funded, reading incentives, homecoming, after prom donation, kindergarten and senior gifts, teacher/staff/transportation appreciation, field days beverages. No individual/personal solicitations will be accepted. Contact Lori Middendorf in guidance to find out about scholarship procedures.

3)  Officer nominations- President-Tabitha Scoville, Vice President- Sue Visser, Treasurer- Carolyn Nowalk(?), Secretary- none

      4) Community Clean-up- Tabitha has maps, tickets, and
          gloves. Carolyn will get garbage bags and do raffles.

3)  Movie Night/Ice Cream social- Amy will look on-line for new releases around the May 2nd date. We will need bowls and spoons. Toppings suggested; chocolate sauce, cherries, sprinkles, whip cream. We can get ice cream at Aldis.

4)  New Business- Amy will write and send a note to Martha Tuning to clear-up library fund and “cc” it to the principals. Amber suggested a county/area/community PTO meeting, inviting all surrounding PTOs.  Serve refreshments, collaborate ideas and open up lines of communications. Amber Delarm drew our 3rd quarter volunteer winners. They were adult-Katrina Scott and student- Gabrielle Lester.

May 14th, 2008

 

1)  Treasurer’s report- Carolyn will have May and June reports at the June meeting

2)  Science Night- Heidi needs volunteers to help. Mr. Corsi’s students are participating with their own exhibits. Mr. Pinkerton will do an exhibit of local species. Heidi will try to contact Mr. Schmit and Ms. Baer again. We have some science supplies. Heidi wants to do hands-on activities. Mrs. McGrath volunteered to help as she will be there helping Mr. Corsi also. Katrina Scott volunteered her boys as did Tabitha for Shawn.

  Officer Voting- Tabitha Scoville voted back in as President, Sue Visser voted back in as Vice President, Carolyn Nowalk voted back in as Treasurer, Denise Rice voted in as Secretary and Martha Tuning voted in as School Representative

4)  Box Tops- Katrina had 2007-2008 earning sheet, $395.50.
She will be sending a summer collection sheet home with kids 
for summer vacation.

5)  Field Days beverages- Tabitha has the volunteer list with times and names.

6)  New Business- A fall festival was suggested for October (pumpkins, scarecrows, games, hayride, BBQ, crafters, community involvement) and a soccer game was mentioned as a fundraiser. Also, a cookbook with character qualities as title pages. A 4th of July float with students as teachers and teachers as students was brought up for the parade in July.
