Tabitha Scoville Family: I live in the town of Cincinnatus with my husband Shawn and my three awesome kids. We own a large 200+ year old home. Our property is like a piece of the country in town and we love it. My husband has lived here all his life and graduated from Cincinnatus while I am a happy transplant. I grew up in Killawog and attended Marathon Elementary but my family later moved to the McGraw school district. I graduated from McGraw second in my class. My husband works for the school and I work at the pizzeria in town but I have just gone back to college to become a teacher. We like being part of a community that is small enough to care about each other and we believe that our community is full of opportunities in spite of its size. Why I got involved: I started to regularly attend meetings last year and I’m so glad I did. It seemed I was always too busy to even consider joining in the past. I’m still very busy but this is a rewarding priority for me. I’m grateful for the last several years of organization within the PTO. The volunteers have transformed it into such a positive force in both our school and community. I’m thrilled to be the new PTO president and I can’t wait to get started! Favorite PTO Activity: Hands down, Family Movie Night. I like to be able to offer families a FREE activity. Going to the movies was a big deal when I was a kid and I think it still is in our fast paced world. I also like that we bring Rollerskating and Karate into the community for the kids to enjoy. Would like to see: I have two main goals this year. First, I want to keep moving forward with fresh ideas and new experiences for our kids. I’d like to see them have as many opportunities for learning and fun as we can make happen. My second goal is to increase the number of regular volunteers. Volunteering to help at your child’s school can have a tremendous impact on their life as well as your own. The more volunteers we have, the more new ideas we have, the more different directions we can go and the more we can accomplish for our kids, our school and our community. Lastly, we will be working hard to increase communication so that you don’t miss any opportunities for fun this year. We’ll be using the website and a monthly newsletter to keep you informed.
Susan Visser Family: I live in Willet with my two children. We moved here from Pennsylvania in 2003. I was born and raised in New Jersey. My husband passed away in a car accident in 2002, so I raise my children on my own. I don't work outside the home, and the kids like it that I am home when they get off the bus at the end of the day. In the summers we enjoy swimming, traveling, and visiting with our family. My family still lives in New Jersey and although I do visit quite often, I don't think I could ever live down there again. It took us a while to adjust to small town life, but now we love it, and couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I absolutely love the small town, no traffic, not so rushed pace of the country. Why I got involved: I have been a member of the PTO for two years, but have only been active for one. I got involved so I could help my children get the most they could out of being well rounded students. In all honesty, they really love it when I come to school and am involved in their activities. Whether I am helping out in the classroom, chaperoning a field trip, or just doing things aroung school for the PTO. I started out volunteering for some of the events and realized that I really enjoy being able to keep busy and help the students at the same time. I feel it's a "win win" situation all around. My favorite PTO event: I really love being involved in all of them. I just love watching the expressions on their faces and sharing in their joy, when they get to take a picture with Santa, paint a really cool pumpkin at the cornfest or win a ribbon during field days! I believe, right now, those are great moments in the life of a child, and we should enjoy them while we can. It won't be long before those years are gone, but at least we can say, "We remember when..."! We were there, we were involved and our children reaped the rewards. Hopefully they will grow up to be caring, responsible adults willing to take an active part in their childrens lives as we have taken an active part in theirs.
Carolyn Nowalk Family: I live in Taylor with my husband Zachary and our daughter. We own an 80 acre farm and it is there that we raise our menagerie of pets. We enjoy living in the country and raising our daughter in the atmosphere of a small town. Both Zach & I work full time and travel to Lansing & Ithaca respectively for our jobs, but we would never leave our farm in the country. Why I got involved: This is my third year in the PTO, my second as an officer. When I joined the PTO 2 years ago I started to volunteer at a few events and soon realized that I wanted to be more involved in everything the PTO does. The PTO creates fun and exciting opportunities for our children, and the members have fun while doing it. I value the friendships my daughter and I have made with the other members and their children. The PTO is a very rewarding way for me to be involved in my daughter’s school years and make the most of them. As a working mother I am not able to be at the school during the day and help in the classroom, the PTO is an opportunity for me to be a part of her school experience in many other ways. I think that my daughter enjoys the PTO as much as I do, from helping at the events to playing with the other children during the meetings. Favorite PTO Activity: It is very difficult to choose a favorite activity out of everything that we do. The best part for me at any activity is to see the kids enjoying the things that we make possible. Whether they are DANCING, ROLLER SKATING, or EATING BREAKFAST WITH SANTA their excitement and enthusiasm is priceless. I enjoy knowing that I am doing everything possible to make my daughter’s school years the best they can be. Would like to see: I would like to see more support and involvement from the teachers, parents and the school itself. I think we have proven with the building of the new PLAYGROUND that together we can accomplish great things. The more support our PTO receives, the more all of our children can benefit and experience.

Amy Flint Rice Family: I live in Willet with my husband Michael, our son and our daughter. We also have a cat, 3 bunnies and a fish. We are currently building a new house and hope to be in by the end of the school year (still in Cincy district). Why I got involved: I have volunteered at a couple events and seen how much fun these events can be for the members and the children. I think the PTO and its "accomplishments" are a wonderful addition to the educational "world" of my children and I wanted to be a part of that! Favorite PTO activity: I have been to roller-skating nights and they are surely fun. My children have participated in the karate and dance classes that the PTO have offered and enjoyed them a lot. I look forward to being a part of all the activities this year and beyond! Would like to see: I would like to see more involvement from teachers, parents and community. The PTO has done wonderful things for our school and our children. It surely deserves a lot more respect and support then it currently has. Let us all work together to make our PTO the best it can be!! |
