Beloved Tradition Lives On: Cincinnatus Students Host Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Local Seniors

A beloved tradition over 20 years strong continued this year on November 13, 2025, as the Cincinnatus Student Senate hosted its Annual Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Dinner, welcoming nearly 50 local seniors for an afternoon of food, connection, and gratitude.
This tradition has grown into a cherished community event, bringing generations together in the spirit of Thanksgiving. This year’s celebration once again featured a delicious turkey dinner complete with all the fixings, prepared by the amazing cafeteria staff - an incredible feat when added to their daily lunch responsibilities, and served with care by student volunteers. We always end the meal with pumpkin pie, though we have some attendees who begin with the pie to ensure they have the room.
Student Senate Advisor, Mareen Holtmart who participated in this event as a student during her time in the Student Government at Cincinnatus said that she is proud to continue this tradition.
“It’s a meaningful way for our students to give back and show appreciation for the senior community that supports our school in so many ways.” Holtmart said.
"The experience provides both our students and community members with a deeper connection. Some Senate members have spent the past four years eating lunch with the same attendees, giving them opportunities to discuss their futures and dreams, while attendees share the paths their lives have taken."
The event not only provided a warm holiday meal, but also offered students the opportunity to practice leadership, service, and gratitude—values at the heart of the Cincinnatus community.
When asked about the event, one community member commented, "We get a good meal, a chance to see students we wouldn't necessarily see, and we get to visit with people we might not see very often. All things important to seniors, especially if they can't get out much."
As for the Senate members, Garrett Lieb and Peyton Tefft shared that they believe it is so important to have the opportunity to give back to our community.
"It makes us feel good to have done something nice to show we care about our community." Lieb said.
The district extends a heartfelt thank you to all who helped make this year’s dinner a success and looks forward to continuing the tradition for many years to come.
