Cincinnatus School Community Celebrates NYS Class D Girls Soccer Championship and State Award Recipi

The Cincinnatus Central School community gathered for a school-wide assembly Monday to recognize and celebrate the exceptional achievements of the Girls Varsity Soccer team following their New York State Class D Championship victory.
Students, faculty, and staff filled the gymnasium to honor a season defined by hard work, perseverance, and teamwork. The celebration was made even more meaningful with the presentation of an official proclamation from the Cortland County Legislature recognizing the team’s historic accomplishment. In attendance to share remarks and present the proclamation were Mic Eccleston, Cortland County Legislator; Michael Ponticiello, Cortland County Administrator; Ashley Mallard, Cortland County Deputy Clerk; and Savannah Hemstead, Cortland County Clerk.
County officials commended the student-athletes and coaching staff for their dedication, sportsmanship, and for representing their school and community with pride throughout the championship season.
In addition to capturing the team state title, several individuals from Cincinnatus earned New York State Class D honors for their outstanding performance this season. Head Coach Lisa Sustad was named NYS Class D Girls Varsity Soccer Coach of the Year. A Cincinnatus native, Coach Sustad has led the team for eight years and this marks her second NYS championship, with her first coming in 2023.
Junior Jocelyn Turshman was named NYS Class D Player of the Year and, along with teammate Payton Landers, was selected to the First Team. Junior Makayla Mills earned Third Team honors.
These honors reflect the hard work, commitment, and excellence demonstrated by the athletes and their coach both on and off the field. Their achievements are a tremendous source of pride for the entire Cincinnatus Central School community.
