New Interim Principal Dr. Peter Smith Joins Cincinnatus Secondary School

Cincinnatus Central School District has named Dr. Peter Smith as the new interim principal of the secondary school. Dr. Smith began in the role this week and will serve through June.
After serving the Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District for 28 years in a number of roles, Dr. Smith retired last June from his position as superintendent. Now, he brings his decades of experience in educational leadership to Cincinnatus Central School District.
Dr. Smith says the transition has been seamless thanks to the warm welcome he has received from the school community.
“The staff has been amazing, and the students are just so friendly and kind,” Smith said.
He also noted the district’s unique structure—serving students from kindergarten through 12th grade in one building—gives a true sense of what a tight-knit community feels like.
“You can see the pride here, especially with so many multi-generational families who have strong ties to the district,” Smith said.
Outside of school, Dr. Smith enjoys skiing, golfing, pickleball, and hiking. He and his wife have three daughters.
The district is grateful to have Dr. Smith step into the role and looks forward to his leadership over the coming months.
